The American Connection

When I began writing Retrospective, a key factor was bringing the world of 1980s London to life. I tried to make the city and the 1983 time-period their own characters, and so far, we’ve had some very fascinating feedback, particularly from people who were there during that era. Recently, I was talking with a friend who read the book and grew up in London in the 1970s and 1980s. We talked about the novel, the upcoming volumes and the way in which the story evolves.

 

One thing he said, was, that given the book is published in the U.S., will there be an American connection to our series of novels? For those of you who’ve been long-time subscribers to this newsletter, you may recall March 2024’s entry, where we offered up a couple of teasers, one of which was called The Bust (If you’re a newer subscriber and would like to read this one, contact us at huwevansbooks@gmail.com and we’ll get it sent out to you).

 

In it, our audience was introduced to a character by the name of Lance Baker. Lance is a Sergeant in the Narcotics Bureau, working out of the New York Police Department’s Manhattan South district in 1983. He’s been tipped off about a potential drug buy that could lead to a major distributor and is part of a team that’s trying to battle against the flood of heroin and cocaine entering The Big Apple during the early 1980s....
